The content of lead, which is one of the most hazardous heavy metals in soils of Petrozavodsk, was surveyed. Different land use categories demonstrating certain patterns in lead accumulation were identified within the city. Lead 33 34 contamination was the highest in the industrial and urban build-up categories. Average lead concentrations in soils of the city are within maximum permissible levels, but twice higher than the background values for soils of the region. High variation of the metal content indicates its non-uniform spatial distribution. A schematic map of lead content in Petrozavodsk soils was compiled, showing the spatial heterogeneity of lead accumulation in the soils and highlighting the sites with very high concentrations of the metal.
